Caucasus III Elbrus 5.642m winter ascent Russia
Today our winter effort in the mountains of the Caucasus and the highest peak Elbrus 5,642m was completed
We did not manage to reach the top of the Elbrus 5.642m
we stopped at 5.220m My enthusiastic and promising young rope partner Paris Koligiotis presented with stomach problems and symptoms of mountain sickness, our return was deemed immediate and necessary.
Although satisfactory acclimatization had been done with ascents:
Azau-Gitche-Cheget-Kara 3461m,
Itkol peak 3.531m (3,220m)
and two ascents in the Elbrus itself up to 4,300m and the second in 4,800m.
But this is how the mountains often give us surprises
and in order to continue to enjoy their beauties we must remain safe.
